What is surveillance (information)
When audiences use media products to learn new things or keep up to date with current events / issues. This satisfies a consumers curiosity
What is personal identity
When audiences identify with values or ideas that are reinforced in a media product. E.g what it means to be a man or women I the 21st century
What is personal relationships (social interaction)
When audiences use a media product to form real relationships with fictional or real characters. Also consuming the media product allows the audience to discuss it with others, forming a sense of community and a relationship with the media product
What is escapism (entertainment)
When audiences use a media product for the entertainment it provides them. Media products off an escape from daily routines
