Is the basic unit of an organism e.g skin cell
A tissue
a group of cells working together to perform a specific function e.g. muscle
An organ
A group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function. e.g heart
A system
A group of organs that work together to perform complex body functions e.g. digestive system
The Nucleus
Control center of the cell that contains DNA. Controls cell activities
Cell Membrane
A cell structure that controls which substances can enter or leave the cell.
Cell Wall
strong, supporting layer around the cell membrane in some cells e.g in plant cells
Mitochondria
Provide energy for cell activities. This is where respiration happens.
Chloroplast
Site of photosynthesis. The pigment chlorophyll is found here.
Vacuole
Cell organelle that stores materials such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates
objective lens
The lens on a light microscope that is closest to the stage. Used for magnifying the image.
Eyepiece
The lens at the top that you look through. They are usually 10X or 15X power.
Stage of the microscope
Holds the microscope slide in position.
A cover slip
It covers specimen on a slide. Keep the cells in place.
Iodine
Stain used on a plant cell, stains the nucleus and cell wall to make it clearer.
Methylene blue
Stain used on an animal cell, stains the nucleus to make it clearer.
light microscope
A type of microscope that uses light and lenses to magnify images.
