Bronchitis
Inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from the lungs. It causes coughing, mucus, and difficulty breathing.
Pneumonitis
General term for inflammation of lung tissue, which may be caused by infection, radiation, or exposure to irritants.
Aerophagia
Swallowing excess air, often leading to bloating, belching, or abdominal discomfort.
Dysphonia
Difficulty speaking or an abnormal voice (such as hoarseness). Often caused by irritation or damage to the vocal cords.
Anthracosis
Also called "black lung disease", it's caused by the inhalation of coal dust over a long period, typically in coal miners.
Epiglottedema
Swelling (edema) of the epiglottis, which can block airflow and become a medical emergency.
Thoracentesis
A procedure to remove fluid or air from the pleural space (the area between the lungs and chest wall) using a needle.
Pulmonary function tests (PFTs)
A group of tests that measure how well the lungs are working, including how much air you can inhale/exhale and how efficiently gas is exchanged.
Inflammation of the epiglottis
This condition is called epiglottitis. It can be life-threatening if the swelling blocks the airway.
