ubi Aeneas finem dicendi facit, omnes taciti sedent admiratione pleni. tandem Dido eos dimittit.
Aeneas makes an end of speaking, everyone sit silently, full of admiration. At last Dido she sends away them.
And soon all are asleep. But Did cannot sleep. Through the entire night Dido she turns over in her mind the labors of the Trojans and Aeneas.
Aeneas Troiänique post tantõs labores ualde fessi sunt. eis placet in Libya manêre et quiescere.
After great labors Aeneas and the Trojans very tired. It pleases them, they decide to stay and rest in Libya.
interea Dido Aeneam amäre incipit. in dies crescit amor. nunc Aenēam sécum per moenia dücit, nunc, ubi uesper adest, exposcit iterum audire Troianorum labores.
Meanwhile Dido she begins to love Aeneas and her love increases from day to day. Now she leads Aeneas with her throughout the walls of the city. Now when it is the evening she demands again and again to hear about the labors of the Trojans.
She sees and hears Aeneas even absent. Nor does Aeneas despise the love of Dido. Through the whole winter he remains in Libya and helps Dido who builds a new city.
But the king of the gods, Jupiter, watches Aeneas from the sky lingering in Libya.
He is angry because Aeneas forgetful of his destiny, remains there. He calls Mercury, the messenger of the gods, and says "Go now Mercury, fly to Libya, order Aeneas to sail to Italy immediately."
ille patris magni parère parat imperio. talaria induit aurea, quae eum suprã acquora terramque portant. de caelo in Libyam uolat.
He prepares to obey the command of his mighty father. He puts on golden sandals which carry him above the seas and the land. He flys from the sky to Libya.
Aenēam conspicit arcem fundantem; accedit et "tũ nunc" inquit "Carthaginis fundamenta exstruis, regni rérumque tuarum oblitus! ipse rex deorum tibi me demittit de Olympo, ipse me iubet haec ferre tibi mandāta. quid facis? quã spe in Libycis terris cessãs? i nunc; nõli diütius in Libya manère. ad Italiam nãuigã nouam-que Trõiam ibi conde."
He sees Aeneas founding the citadel he approaches and says, "You now are building the foundations of Carthage. Forgetful of your realm and affairs. The king of the gods himself sends me down to you from Olympus. He himself orders me to bring these commands to you. What are you doing? With which hope do you linger in Libyan lands? Go now, don't stay in Libya any longer. Sail to Italy found a new Troy there.
Thus he says and disappears from the eyes of Aeneas. Aeneas is terrified he cannot ignore the commands of the gods.
ad comites redit iubetque cos nãues parare. Dido tamen omnia cognöscit; Aeneam arcessit et "perfide" inquit, "tù parãs tacitus discedere e mea terra? sic amorem meum spernis? sic mé moritüram deseris?"
He returns to his companions and orders them to prepare the ships. Dido however finds out about everything. She summons Aeneas and says, "Traitor, are you preparing to depart from my land silently? In this way do you spurn my love? In this way you desert me doomed to die."
ille amore ualde commötus "neque amörem tuum sperno" inquit "neque tacitus abire paro. luppiter ipse me iubet Italiam petere Trõiamque nouam ibi condere. Italiam non sponte peto."
He greatly disturbed by her love says, "I do not spurn your love, nor do I prepare to go away silently. Jupiter himself has told me to seek out Italy and found a new Troy there. I do not seek Italy on my own will.
tum uero exardescit Dido irã: "ego te non retineo. i nunc. Italiam pete. sed hoc te moneo: dira te poena manet; sérius cius aut ego aut posteri ultiönem tibi exigent." sic dicit et ad terram decidit exanimāta.
Then in fact Dido flares up with anger, she says, "I am not holding you back, go now, seek Italy. This I warn you, a terrible punishment awaits you sooner or later either I or my decedents will exact vengeance from you." Thus she says and falls to the ground in a faint.
กลินes soluunt.
Aeneas sad and disturbed leaves Dido behind and returns to his friends. He should the orders of the gods. The ships are ready. The next day at first light the Trojans set sail.
infelix Dido, ubi dies uenit, Trõiãnõs uidet nauigäre parantes. fatis territa mortem orat. serus iubet magnam pyram exstruere. dum omnes eam spec-tant, pyram ascendit
Unhappy Dido when the day comes sees the Trojans preparing to sail. She is terrified by the fates she begs for death. She orders the servants to build a great pyre while everyone watches her, she climbs the pyre.
gladium capit quem Aeneas ipse ei dederat, et pectus transfigit. illi, ubi Didonem mortuam uident, ualde commoti sunt. reginam lügent. tristes pyram succendunt. fümus ad caelum surgit.
She takes a sword which Aeneas himself had given her and pierces her chest. They when they see Dido dead are very disturbed. They mourn the queen. Sadly they light the pyre, smoke rises to the sky.
Meanwhile Aeneas while he hurries through the sea looks back and sees smoke in the sky. He says, "What am I seeing, why does smoke rise up to the sky in this way?" But he is not able to return. He sad and anxious seeks Italy.
