Genre
A particular subject or style of literature, art, or music etc. A class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like.
Informational texts
A subject of the larger category of non-fiction. Encyclopedia, Magazines, Textbooks, Newspaper, Websites, other reference materials.
Encyclopedia
A book or set of books giving information on many subjects or many aspects of one subject
Newspaper/Periodicals
A publication consisting of a number of large sheets of folded paper on which news, advertisements and other information are printed.
magazine
A publication with a paper cover which is issued regularly. Contains articles, stories, photographs, and advertisements.
Textbooks
Contain facts about particular subject that is used by people studying that subject.
Literary Texts
Pieces of written material, such as a book or poem, that has the purpose oof telling a story or entertaining. Usually aesthetic but may also contain political messages or beliefs.
Fable
Demonstrates useful truths in which animals speaks or humans.
Fantasy
Fiction with strange or other worldly settings or characters. Invites suspension of reality.
Fairytale
Stories about fairies and other magical creatures, usually for children.
Folklore
Songs, stories, myths and proverbs of people or “folk” as handed down by words or mouth.
Legend or Epic
Story, sometimes about a national or folk hero, which has a basis in fact but also includes imaginative material.
Historical Fiction
Story with fictional characters and events in a historical setting.
Horror
Events evoke a feeling of fear or dread in both characters and the reader.
Humor
Intentions is to make their audience/reader laugh, lighter in tune.
Mystery
deals with the solution of a crime or the unraveling of secrets.
Mythology
Traditional narrative, often partly based on historical events, that reveals human behavior and natural phenomena by its symbolism. Often pertains to the actions of the gods.
Brainstorming
Process of writing down specific topics from different sources.
Alex Faickney Osborn (1953)
The person who coined the word brainstorming. Defined it as a group/individual creative technique who makes an effort to find conclusions for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members.
Idea listing
Involves listing down ideas about a particular topic

A visual representation of ideas and their connections with one another.
Cubing
Idea is examined from 6 distinct viewpoints
Free writing
Writing what comes to mind; continuous writing without inhibitions with disregard for spelling and grammatical errors.
Researching
Going to the library/internet then making a list or map of new ideas.
Reading
A decoding process: break down of written codes/letters
A comprehension process: Comprehend understanding
Writing
Method of representing language in visual or tactile form. Uses system of graphic symbols that can be used to convey meaning.
