Define aim.

A general statement about the purpose of an investigation

Define hypothesis.

A precise, testable statement about the expected outcome of an experiment

Define one tailed hypothesis. (directional)

A hypothesis which determines the relationship between the variables with a specified direction

Define two tailed hypothesis. (non-directional)

A hypothesis which determines the relationship between the variables with a no specified direction

What is a null hypothesis?

A null hypothesis states that there is no relationship between two variables

What is an experimental hypothesis?

A statement about the effect of the IV on the DV

What are the directional hypotheses?

One and two tailed hypotheses

What might an alternative hypothesis be referred to as?

Experimental hypothesis (try not to use this name however)

Define alternative hypothesis.

What you predict will happen in your study.

How do you write a hypothesis?

Include the IV, DV and they need to be fully operationalised (making variables measurable)
