Protects the freedoms of speech, religion, the press, assembly (gathering in groups), and the right to petition the government (ask for changes).

Gives people the right to own and carry weapons (the right to bear arms).

Protects people from unfair searches and seizures by the government. Police need a warrant or a good reason to search your property.

Protects people from being forced to testify against themselves, from being tried twice for the same crime (double jeopardy), and guarantees fair legal treatment (due process).

Gives people the right to a fair and speedy trial by jury, the right to a lawyer, and the right to know what they are being charged with.

Protects against cruel and unusual punishments and very high bail or fines.

Abolished (ended) slavery in the United States.

14TH

Gives citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. and guarantees equal protection under the law for all citizens.

Gives African American men the right to vote by saying no one can be denied the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

18th

Made it illegal to make, sell, or transport alcohol (Prohibition).

19th

Gave women the right to vote.

Ended Prohibition by canceling the 18th Amendment, making alcohol legal again.

22nd

Limits the President to only two terms in office.

25th

Explains what happens if the President dies, resigns, or is unable to do the job. It also sets up rules for the Vice President to take over.
