• found mostly in the western United States where large flocks (or bands) rely on grazing

• located in arid and semi-arid states

Winter range

• breeding in November/December

• April shorn

• low elevation

Spring/fall range

• lambing and leave

Summer range

• September and October

Farming flocks

• found in the Midwest, southeast, and northeast of the United States

• primarily use pasture but may be supplemented with hay and grains

• less than 100 head

• fenced pastures—hay, concentrates

• barns and sheds for lambing

• mix of breeds
