New cards

Short response : What does it mean to say that the Church is " Apostolic" .

The church is Apostolic because of how it was founded on the mission/ teachings of the Apostles.

93
New cards

Short response : How would you respond ? A classmate described the word "Evangelization" as "Outdated", commenting, "You cannot force anyone to be a Christian. That is like something from my great grandma's era. It has nothing to do with the work of the church of today. People just need to make up their own minds.

I would personally tell them them it's okay to have your own opinion and form of judgement, but Evangelization is all about the ministry and mission of proclaiming Christ and his gospel wit the hopes of deepening the faith of believers as well as inviting others into our church/ faith.

94
New cards

Short response : Discuss this statement- " Strictly speaking , Catholics do not "pray to" the saint."

" Strictly speaking , Catholics do not "pray to" the saint" , means that Catholic don't necessarily have a specific person to pray to. While some Catholics seek the guidance of saints, they are mainly encouraged to pray to the Lord.

95
New cards

Short response : How would you respond ? A friend tells you that "Holiness" should not be one of the essential Marks of the Church. In a class discussion your friend asks, " The Catholic Church has sinned and is full of people who sin. How , therefore, can it really be called " Holy" ?

In response I would say that the Holiness plays a big part in many people's lives. Holiness is the state of goodness in a person with the help of God's grace that will be forgiven of all evil and sin and live a life of prayer. Therefore, the church does have sinners and well people which makes the church

" Universal ".

96
New cards

Short Response : How would you respond ? At church, the priest's sermon focuses on the faithfulness of the disciple John. On the way home, a member of your family comments, " Jesus only chose holy and perfect disciples, and that's where the church has gone wrong."

I would say that many of the disciple Jesus chose weren't perfect and some even betrayed Jesus. For example we aren't perfect yet Jesus still loves us and wants all good intentions for us, just like disciples. Such as Simon Peter was hot-tempered and denied Jesus. Thomas also doubted Jesus even after being with him for years.
