CO2 + H2O yields C6H12O6 + O2; occurs in Chloroplasts.

Light Dependent Reactions

Cause a reaction from light, can happen in absence of light as well.

Cellular Respiration

Organisms break down glucose to release energy; uses O2, releases CO2 and H2O; occurs in mitochondria.

Anaerobic

No oxygen.

Aerobic

With oxygen.

Cycling of Matter

Movement of carbon through photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, etc.

Nitrogen Cycle

Nitrogen movement through the soil, plants, animals, and atmosphere.

Energy Flow in Ecosystems

Only 10% of energy is passed to the next level.

Trophic Cascades

One organism can affect others.

Bioaccumulation

Buildup of toxins in the same individual.

Biomagnification

Build up of toxins through the food chain, higher trophic level means higher level of toxins.

Decomposers

Breaks down dead matter, recycles nutrients back into the ecosystem.
