What was Freud's influence of psych
He was an Austrian neurologist interested in hysteria. Thought these symptoms rose from the unconscious mind (no awareness).
Analyzed it through dreams and the first words that came to people's minds.
Psychoanalytic theory - focuses on the role of a person's unconscious as well as early childhood experiences; dominated clinical psychology for decades

The word gestalt translates to "whole".
