What was Freud's influence of psych

  • He was an Austrian neurologist interested in hysteria. Thought these symptoms rose from the unconscious mind (no awareness).

  • Analyzed it through dreams and the first words that came to people's minds.

  • Psychoanalytic theory - focuses on the role of a person's unconscious as well as early childhood experiences; dominated clinical psychology for decades
