1
New cards

define input devices

devices that allow data to be entered in the computer system so it can be processed.

2
New cards

what are the 11 input devices

barcode scanner

digital camera

keyboard

microphone

optical mouse

QR scan code

touch screen (resistive)

touch screen (capacitive)

touch screen (infrared)

2D scanner

3D scanner

3
New cards

how does a barcode scanner work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

barcode works by reading a barcode and converting it to digital data, it does it to identify products quickly using a unique code. It is used in supermarket checkouts.

4
New cards

how does a digital camera work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

captures photographs or videos as digital files, it does it to input images onto a computer and can be used in photography, media creation, video phone calls etc.

5
New cards

how does a keyboard work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

a keyword works by inputting text, numbers and commands to the computer using the keys of the keyboard. It does it to allow user to control the computer and used in writing documents, entering passwords etc.

6
New cards

how does a microphone work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

captures sound and converts into digital signal, it does it to input voice or audio. It can be used in voice recording, video calls etc.

7
New cards

how does an optical mouse work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it detects movement and clicks to control the pointer on the screen, it does it to navigate and interact with software. It can be used in selecting icons, dragging files or gaming.

8
New cards

how does a QR code scanner work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it reads the QR code and converts it into readable data, it does it to quickly access information or complete task such as payment. It can be used in contacts menus, advertisements and ticketing.

9
New cards

how does a touch screen (resistive) work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

Registers the touch using pressure on two layers, it does it to allow input with touch it is cheaper nd can be used with gloves. It can be used in old smartphone .

10
New cards

how does a touch screen (capacitive) work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

registers touch using electrical properties of the finger, it is more responsive and more accurate. It can be used in modern smartphones.

11
New cards

how does a touch screen (infrared) work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it uses a grid of infrared beams to detect where the area of the screen is being touched. It does it becuase it is more durable, it can detect any input. It can be used in industrial applications.

12
New cards

how does a 2D scanner work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

2D scanner captures flat documents as digital image files. It does it o digitise physical documents. It can be used in canning passports.

13
New cards

how does a 3D scanner work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it capture the shape of the 3D object to create digital models. It does it to recreate real work objects digitally, it can be used in engineering, gaming etc.

14
New cards

Define output devices

any hardware component that presents the data from a computer to the user.

15
New cards

what are the 9 output devices

actuator

Digital light processing processor

inkjet printer

laser printer

light emitting diode screen

liquid crystal display projector

liquid crystal display screen

speaker

3D printer.

16
New cards

how does a actuator work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

It produces a physical movement, it does it to convert digital signals into real work physical actions. It can be used in outomatic doors.

17
New cards

how does a digital light processing projector work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

It projects images by using tiny mirrors and a light source, it does it to display large high quality visuals fro ma computer. It is used in presentations, class teaching etc.

18
New cards

how does an inkjet printer work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

Sprays tiny drops of ink onto paper to form text and images, it does it to produce colour or black and white prints on paper. It can be used in home or office printing.

19
New cards

how does a laser printer work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

It uses lasers to heat the fuse tone powder to the paper, it does it since it is more faster and efficient then inkjet printer for high-volume printing. It can be used in business environments, schools etc.

20
New cards

how does a light hitting diode screen work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it displays images using light emitting diodes, it does it since it is brighter and more energy efficient than liquid crystal display projector and screen. It can be used in TV’s, advertising boards etc.

21
New cards

how does a liquid crystal display projector work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

uses a light source and liquid crystal panels to project images, it does it to present digital visuals to an image. It is used in offices, classrooms and cinemas.

22
New cards

how does a liquid crystal display screen work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

displays images using liquid crystals and a blacklight, it does it for a low power visual output, it is used in

23
New cards

how does a speaker work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it converts digital audio signals into sound, it does it to output sound

24
New cards

how does a 3D printer work, why does it do it and where can it be used.

it builds objects layer by layer using materials like plastic, it does it to turn digital photos into physical 3D objects. It can be used in engineering.
