corneal abrasions
hx: superficial trauma to the eye
exam: stains w/ fluorescein> examine w/ light
corneal abrasions s&s
pain, tearing, blepharospasm (unable to keep eye open)
conreal abrasion tx
polymyxin ointment
tx w/ fluoroquinolones in contact lenses weareres
f/u
conreal lacerations
significant traume (more dangerous)
typically from metaliic object
corneal laceration s&s
initial pain may dull d/t corneal desensitization
profuse lacrimation
uveits(affects the middle layer of the eye)
anterior chamber shallow if full lacerated
IOP is low
KEY FINDING: bubbles /in the anterior chamber
hyphema
corneal laceration tx.
REFERAL!
cover up
keep NPO( incase of emrgencies)
xray/ct if other suspections
hyphema
pooling of blood in anterior chamber (btwn the cornea and iris)
± trauma related
blood is usually reabsorbed over time
hyphema s&s
blood may obstruct iris /pupil= block vision in that eye
hyphema tx.
head rested at 30 degree
beta blocker/ carbonic anhydrase inhibitors
surgery if increased pressure or bleeding
