Epithelial Tissue
Covers body surfaces, lines hollow organs, tubes, cavities, and ducts; forms glands.
Connective Tissue
Cells in a matrix of fibers and ground substance, includes bone and blood; protects, supports, binds organs together, stores energy, and transports (blood).
Muscle Tissue
Contractile cells (muscle fibers) responsible for movement.
Nervous Tissue
Conducting nerve cells and supportive neuroglia that detect changes and generate nerve impulses.
Structural Organization
Six levels of organization in the human body: Chemical, Cellular, Tissue, Organ, System, Organismal.
Integumentary System
Includes skin and accessory structures such as hair, nails, and glands; primary functions protect and regulate temperature.
Cardiovascular System
Composed of the heart and blood vessels; functions in the transport of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and waste.
Respiratory System
Includes structures for conducting air and enabling gas exchange in the lungs.
Digestive System
Composed of organs that break down food, absorb nutrients, and eliminate waste.
Urinary System
Involves kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra; regulates fluid balance and removes wastes from the body.
Lymphatic System
Carries lymph fluid and lymphocytes; involved in immune responses and the recycling of fluids.
Endocrine System
Glands that secrete hormones to regulate bodily functions like growth and metabolism.
