Cultural Sensitivity
Being understanding, nonjudgmental, impartial, and respectful to all cultures.
Subjective Data
What the patient feels and states, e.g., 'I’ve been having this stomachache since Wednesday.'
Objective Data
What can be seen, measured, and examined by the healthcare provider, e.g., physical assessment, vital signs.
Verbal Communication
Communication that is done through speech, involving open answers and nonjudgmental responses.
Nonverbal Communication
Communication that is performed through body language, such as eye contact, smiling, and appropriate physical orientation.
Complete Assessment
A full medical history and health assessment establishing a baseline for determining abnormal conditions.
Focused Assessment
A limited assessment targeted at a short-term problem or specific body system.
IPPA Format
An assessment format consisting of Inspection, Palpation, Percussion, and Auscultation procedures.
IAPP Format
An abdominal assessment format consisting of Inspection, Auscultation, Palpation, and Percussion.
Cognition Tests
Tests designed to examine immediate and long-term memory performance.
Broca’s Aphasia
A type of expressive aphasia where patients understand speech but struggle to produce language.
Wernicke’s Aphasia
A type of receptive aphasia where patients can speak fluently but do not make sense, often producing 'word salad.'
Delirium
An acute confusional state with disorientation and disordered thinking.
Dementia
A chronic progressive loss of cognitive and intellectual functions with memory loss and impaired judgment.
BMI (Body Mass Index)
A measurement to assess healthy weight concerning height, with categories including underweight, normal, overweight, and obesity.
Malnutrition
A condition caused by a lack of proper nutrients, potentially leading to vitamin deficiencies.
Normal Biomarkers
Reference ranges for biological markers like blood pressure and glucose considered healthy.
Skin Assessment
An evaluation of skin condition related to temperature, mobility, turgor, and presence of lesions.
Pressure Ulcers
Injuries to the skin and underlying tissue due to prolonged pressure, requiring preventive care and monitoring.
Types of Wounds
Categories of wounds that include open, closed, acute, chronic, and infected wounds.
