New cards

During which months is an infant in supine and talk through the progression

1 month to 8 months and then they will move out

2
New cards

During which months is an infant in prone and talk through the progression

1 month to 8 months and then they will move out

3
New cards

What time frame are infants in sidelying?

At 4 Months they may roll to side lying and by 7 Months they play in side lying

4
New cards

When are infants in prone on elbows?

At 2 months infants may lift their head momentarily with their elbows behind their shoulders. By 3 months their elbows are in line with their shoulders and they can reach for toys at 5 months

5
New cards

When do infants weight bear and extend their arm when positioned in prone?

At 5 months they might start extended arm weight bearing

6
New cards

During what time frame do infants sit with support?

Right at birth they can "sit" supported. At 3 months they still need support when they are sitting or they will fall. At 4 months they might be able to sit unsupported in high guard and 5 months they can most likely prop sit. (birth to 5 months)

7
New cards

When to infants start sitting on their own?

They might sit on their own at 6 months and each month until 9 months a greater amount of infants can sit independently. By 9 months sitting is a functional position and they are able to reach things and play but at 6 months they fall often when sitting

8
New cards

When do infants start transitioning in and out of sitting (go through the progression)?

At 8 months most infants sit independently in many positions and they are able to transition in and out of sitting. By 12 months they are able to go from sitting to standing, quadruped, kneeling or squatting.

9
New cards

What is a babies reaction to "standing" in their first 2 months?

In the first 10 days babies will have automatic walking that occurs when their feet touch the ground. This goes away during the first month and then during the second month their is a brief period of atasia.

10
New cards

When do infants start taking weight through their legs when "standing"?

At 3 months the might start taking more weight through their legs and by 6 months they take full weight through their legs

11
New cards

When might an infant start standing independently with support?

At 7 months they might START trying to stand independently with external support. They need external support from months 7 to at least 9 if not more.

12
New cards

When might an infant start standing totally independently?

They might stand independently at 10 months and by 12 months they should be able to transition in and out of standing

13
New cards

During which months does pull to sit have a head lag?

At birth the infant has a head lag and by month 3 the infant is able to anticipate the pull to sit and there is only an initial head lag

14
New cards

When does head lag disappear in pull to sit?

At 3 months there is an initial head lag but by 4 months the infant anticipates the movement and there is no head lag

15
New cards

What is the progression of pull to sit from 4 months to 6 months?

At 4 months the infant anticipates the movement and there is no head lag at 5 months the legs are totally flexed and at 6 months the hips flex and knees extend

16
New cards

When do protective reactions develop?

- downward protective reaction in legs: 4 months

- protective extension in arms: 6 months

- lateral protective response in arms when sitting 7 months

- 9/10 months protective extension backwards

17
New cards

When do infants roll?

They may roll early on secondary to neck flexion but they will start to voluntarily roll from prone to supine at 5 (maybe 4) months. By 5 months they roll segmentally

18
New cards

When do infants assume quadruped?

at 7 months infants assume quadruped and will rock back and forth in preparation to crawl

19
New cards

What is the progression of equilibrium developing?

- at 7 months equilibrium is developed in prone and supine

- at 8 months equilibrium is developed in sitting

- at 12 months equilibrium is developed on all fours and developing in standing

20
New cards

What is creeping and when do babies start creeping?

Creeping is when babies have their bellies on the ground but they weight shift back and forth to move forward and it begins around 6/7 months. It is the precursor to crawling

21
New cards

At what age might infants start to crawl?

They might start crawling at 7 months. At first they fall often and have lots of lateral flexion of their trunk. At 8 months they move in a variety of patterns to assume all fours and are able to reach for objects. by 9 months most babies crawl easily.

22
New cards

When do babies "master" crawling?

At 10 months they start to crawl over objects and it becomes their main mode of mobility by 11 months

23
New cards

When do babies start pull to stand?

They might pull to stand using mainly their arms at 7 months normally from quadruped or prone. At 8 months they start to pull to stand from half kneeling. (7-9 months they are working on it)

24
New cards

When do babies "master" pull to stand?

At 10 months their legs are more active in pull to stand and their arms are for balance. By 11 months they pull to stand and lower through half kneel

25
New cards

What is cruising and when do babies cruise (review the whole progression)?

Cruising is when babies will use furniture or other things for support to walk sideways. This might start around 7 months and by 10 months they are good at cruising.

26
New cards

When do babies start to work on kneeling?

At 8 months babies start to practice kneeling and they often need their arms for support. They continue to work on kneeling at 9 months.

27
New cards

When do babies kneel independently?

At 10 months babies may start to kneel independently and by 12 months they can assume half kneel independently.

28
New cards

When do babies start to squat?

During 8-10 months babies might lower to reach for an object while holding on and squat with support.

29
New cards

When do babies squat independently?

At 11 months babies will attempt to stand without external support from squatting and by 12 months they will independently squat

30
New cards

When to babies start to walk with external support?

At 8 months babies might start to walk with their hands held. During months 9 and 10 they will continue to walk with hands held.

31
New cards

When might babies start to walk independently?

As early as 11 months babies might start to try and walk independently with high guard. The average age for walking is 12-14 months

32
New cards

What do babies climb on and off of at 9, 10 and 11 months?

At 9 months they can climb onto things but cannot climb down. At 10 months they can look backwards when attempting climbing down stairs. at 11 months they move backwards off of furniture.
