Melanin
The skin's pigment that turns it brown, dark brown, or black.
Hemoglobin
A protein in blood that causes the red color of the skin when blood vessels dilate or flush.
Cyanosis
A condition of the skin turning blue due to a lack of oxygen in the tissues.
Bilirubin
A waste product from the breakdown of red blood cells, excess leads to jaundice and yellowing of the skin and eyes.
Jaundice
A condition resulting from excess bilirubin in the bloodstream, causing yellowing of the skin and sclera.
Keloid
An overgrowth of scar tissue that develops around a wound or incision.
Pressure Ulcers
Injuries to the skin and underlying tissue resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin.
Acetaminophen toxicity
A condition resulting from excessive intake of acetaminophen leading to liver damage.
Cirrhosis
A chronic liver disease characterized by the replacement of healthy liver tissue with scar tissue.
Flushing
The reddening of the skin due to dilation of blood vessels and increased blood flow.
