What are the levels of organization in the human body, starting from the simplest to the most complex?
Atom, Molecule, Cell, Organ, Organ System, Organism.
vertical line
A line that goes straight up and down
horizontal line
Left to right
What does the sagittal plane do?
Divides the body into right and left sections.
What is the coronal plane used for?
To divide the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) sections.
Umbilicus
The naval which indicates the center of the abdomen.
Transtubercular plane
The inferior transverse plane used in 9 abdominal region system.
What does the transverse plane divide the body into?
Superior (upper) and inferior (lower) sections.
How many quadrants are formed in the four quadrant method of abdominal division?
Four quadrants: right upper, left upper, right lower, left lower.
Epigastric
above the stomach
Hypochondriac
used in the 9 abdominal regions to identify structures superior and lateral to the stomach.
Hypogastric
below the stomach.
Iliac
the lower lateral abdominal regions.
Inguinal
Term sometimes used in the 9 abdominal regions indicating the lower lateral abdomen.
Lumbar
Term meaning the region of the low back and also used in the 9 abdominal region system for describing the location of structures lateral to the umbilicus.
Transpyloric plane
The superior transverse plane used in the 9 abdominal region system.
Which organ is located in the right upper quadrant?
Gallbladder.
Which organ is associated with the right lower quadrant?
Appendix.
What are the three superior regions in the nine abdominal regions method?
Epigastric region, Right hypochondriac, Left hypochondriac.
What is the name of the center of the nine abdominal regions?
Umbilicus.
What are the names of the middle abdominal regions?
Umbilical region, Right lumbar, Left lumbar.
What are the names of the lower abdominal regions?
Hypogastric region, Right iliac (inguinal), Left iliac (inguinal).
