Plasma Proteins
the most frequently analyzed of all the proteins
Albumin and Globulin
the major plasma proteins are divided into two groups:
Pre albumin
Binds thyroxine; transport vitamin A
Albumin
oncotic pressure; amino acid reservoir; carries small molecules
Pre albumin
sensitive marker for poor nutrition status
Albumin
Protein present is highest concentration in plasm
Albumin
It is a sensitive and highly prognotic marker of cystic fibrosis
a1-antitrypsin
a1-fetoprotein
a1-acid glycoprotein
a1-lipoprotein
a1-antichymotrypsin
inter-a1 trypsin inhibitor
Gc-globulin
A1-globulins:
Haptoglobin
Ceruloplasmin
a2-macroglobulin
a2-globulin:
Transferrin
Complement
Fibrinogen
CRP
hemopexin
Beta globulin:
IgG, A,M,E,D
Fibronectin
gamma globulin:
Hypoproteinemia
total protein level less than reference interval
Occurs in any condition where a negative nitrogen balance exists
Hyperproteinemia
an increse in total plasma proteins
Occurs in dehydration, when concentration of proteins is elevated due to decreased volume of solvent water
