label the parts of the brain
inside the cerebrum + label
cerebral cortex
outer surface of grey matter
basal ganglia
additional grey groups of nerve bodies associated with skeletal muscle to constrict- initiate desired movements inhibit unwanted movement
white matter
below cortex, consists of bundles of myelinated nerve fibres
motor areas
sensory areas
association areas
frontal lobe
thinking, problem-s, emotions, personality, language, control of movement.
parietal lobe
processes info, temp, taste, touch and movement
occipital lobe
vision
temporal lobe
processes memory and thinking with senses, receives auditory information
protection of the brain
bone (outermost protective layer), cranium (part of skell- protects brain
spinal cord- runs through opening in vertebrae called the vertebral canal
membranes- meninges
meninges- covering entire CNS- three layers of connective tissue forming membranes
fluid- cerebrospinal fluid- clear watery fluid containing a few cells and some glucose, protein, urea and salts.
occupies space between middle and inner layer of meninges, circulates through cavities in the Brain and through canal in centre of spinal cord
protection of the spinal cord
acts as a shock absorber- cushions blows/ shocks CNS sustains
support- the brain as suspended in fluid
formed from blood and circulates through CNS before returning to capillaries
circulation allows delivery of nutrients/ removal of wastes from CNS
cerebrum (cerebral cortex)
