Heroic couplets

(in verse) a pair of rhyming iambic pentameters,

Iambic pentameter

a rhythmic pattern that consists of ten syllables per line, with alternating stressed and unstressed syllables

Anapestic tetrameter

a poetic meter with lines of four anapestic feet(two unstressed syllables % one stressed syllable), creating a "da da DUM" rhythm that is fast and driving

Trochaic tetrameter

a sentence with six syllables; First first, third and fifth syllables are stressed. The second and fourth are unstressed.

Palindrome

A word that is spealled the same when written backwards

Didactic (tone/form purpose)

poetry with the primary purpose of teaching or instructing the reader, rather than simply telling a story or evoking emotion

Typography

the visual arrangement of words on a page

Sonnet

A 14-line poem, usually about love

Ballad

A traditional form of poetry that tells a dramatic story, using quatrains.

Poem that praises a person, event or object

First letter of each line spells a name, word, or phrase

Limerick

Humourous poem where an AABBA structure is followed.

Lines 1,2 & 3 are longer than 3 & 4

Haiku

A 3 verse(tricets) japanese poem with 5 syllables per verse

Villanelle

19 lines poem with 5 stanzaz of 3 lines (ABA) and 1 stanza of 4 lines(ABBA)
