Communication Barriers
factors that prevent us from effectively exchanging and understanding messages
Language Barrier
people who speak different languages attempt to interact
Semantic Barrier
refers to different interpretations of the meaning of words

Physical/Environmental Barrier
any physical limitation that can interfere with the communication process
Physiological Barrier
it refers to physical maladies that prevent messages from being received correctly, such as actual blindness or deafness, or a splitting headache or sleepiness
Emotional/Psychological Barrier
it prevents people from fully expressing their emotions or feelings to one another
Cultural Barrier
occurs due to differences in culture ; reasons can include poor pronunciation, sentence structure, or using the wrong style or words
Kinship
principles generally from the basis of societal organization
Sexuality
interestingly enough, societies vary significantly in the degree to which they encourage or discourage intimacy and its different forms
Gender
tolerating of switching categories of gender
Religion
features of all known societies, but they vary significantly between cultures
Cultural Taboos
while there are some taboos, you’ll also notice that some are “normal” but others aren’t

some cultures encourage conservative dress, such as covering your shoulders and knees in public
