Mineral Beneficiation
A process of value addition through discarding unwanted gangue minerals from wanted minerals.
Ore
A type of rock from which valuable minerals can be extracted profitably.
Gangue Minerals
Non-metallic minerals associated with ore minerals which are worthless as a source for that metal.
Liberation Size
The size of a mineral particle at which that mineral is completely liberated.
Concentration Criterion
A ratio used in gravity concentration; the density of the heavy mineral is compared to that of the light mineral.
Sieve Analysis
A method used to determine the size distribution of particles in a sample.
Screen Efficiency
A measure of the success of a screen in separating oversize and undersize materials.
Froth Flotation
A process that uses differences in physico-chemical surface properties of particles to separate minerals.
Magnetic Susceptibility
A property of a material that determines its response to a magnetic field.
Dewatering
The process of removing water from a slurry to yield a relatively solid-free or liquid-free product.
