What were the South's weaknesses?

The South’s weaknesses included having a farming economy, having verity few factories to produce weapons and other vital supplies, having few railroads to travel, having a smaller population than the North, and the Confederate constitution favored states’ rights and limited the central government, making it very difficult for the central government to get things done.

The North’s weaknesses included facing military challenges, having to conquer a new area, having to invade unfamiliar land, and that supply lines were long and open to attack.

What were the strengths of the North?

The North’s strengths included having many people to grow food and work in factories, having a strong industrial economy, having lots of railroad lines, a strong navy and fleet of trading ships, their northern prairie gave them an abundance of food, and they had West Point, which was a military school in New York, which would help train more and more soldiers during the war.

What were the provisions of the Compromise of 1850?

The compromise of 1850 had 5 main provisions. First it allowed California to enter the Union as a free state. Second, it divided the rest of the Mexican cession into the territories of New Mexico and Utah. Voters in each state would decide the slavery question by popular sovereignty. Third, it ended the slave trade in Washington DC. Fourth, it included a strict Fugitive Slave law. Fifth, It settled a border dispute between Texas and New Mexico.
