A voluntary agreement by two parties to engage in sexual activities.
Voluntary
Consent must be given freely and without being forceful.
Ongoing conversation
Consent involves continuous dialogue between parties regarding their agreement.
Assumed Consent
Consent cannot be inferred from silence, previous sexual history, dress, or flirtation.
Awareness of Risks
Consent can only be given if a person understands the potential risks of engaging in sexual activity.
Age of Consent (Canada)
The legal age at which a person is considered capable of consenting to sexual activity.
Basic Age of Consent in Canada
16 years old.
12- and 13-year-olds Consent Limitations
Can consent if their partner is LESS than five years older.
14- and 15-year-olds Consent Limitations
Can consent if their partner is LESS than two years older.
Age of Consent for 11 year olds
Cannot give consent for sexual activity EVER!
