Scrotum
Supporting structure for the testes. It looks like a single pouch of skin. Internally, there is a septum that divides the scrotum into 2 sacs, each containing a single testis
Penis
Contains the urethra; a passageway for semen and urine
Spermatic cord
Ascends out of the scrotum and passes through the inguinal canal
Spermatic cord consists of the following structures:
Vas deferens.
Testicular artery.
Pampiniform plexus.
Nerves.
Lymphatic vessels.
Cemaster muscle.
Cremaster muscle
Skeletal muscle that descends through spermatic cord to surround the testes
Pampiniform plexus
A network of veins in the spermatic cord; responsible for venous drainage of the testes; it wraps itself around the testicular artery
Testes
Paired glands in the scrotum; produce sperm and secrete hormones
Seminiferous tubules
Tightly coiled tubules located in the testes where sperm are produced
Accessory Sex Glands:
Seminal vesicles (paired).
Prostate gland.
Bulbourethral glands (paired).
Seminal vesicles (paired)
Located posterior to urinary bladder
Prostate gland
Located inferior to urinary bladder
Bulbourethral glands (paired)
Located inferior to the prostate
System of Ducts:
Epididymis.
Vas (ductus) deferens.
Ejaculatory ducts.
Urethra.
Epididymis
An organ that lies along the posterior border of each testicle
Vas (ductus) deferens
Ascends through spermatic cord and then enters pelvic cavity; passes down posterior surface of urinary bladder
Ejaculatory ducts
Formed by the union of the vas deferens and the seminal vesicle; passes anteriorly through the prostate
Urethra
in males, the urethra is a shared terminal duct of the reproductive and urinary systems; serves as a passageway for semen and urine; it passes through the prostate and the penis
Uterus
Located superiorly to the urinary bladder
Subdivisions of the uterus:
Fundus.
Body.
Cervix.
Fundus
Dome shaped portion
Body
A tapering center portion
Cervix
An inferior narrow portion; opens into vagina
Fallopian tubes (or uterine tubes)
Extend laterally from the uterus
Fimbriae
Fingerlike projections attached to the lateral end of the ovary
Ovaries
Paired glands that produce an immature egg and secrete hormones
Vagina
A canal that extends from the uterine cervix to the exterior of the body; sits between the urinary bladder and the rectum
