Luke emphasizes the idea that discipleship involves “picking up your own cross, and following it.” To be a true disciple, you need to experience the suffering that Jesus went through and face the burdens of life. During these times, you need to have complete trust in God, and that things are going to be alright. To understand, Jesus’s sacrifice you need to experience your own.

Two disciples were walking down a road called Emmaus, when Jesus appeared next to them and joined their adventures. The two disciples did not recognize Jesus. The disciples mention how they are uncertain about the Resurrection, and Jesus tells them to have faith. Tells the them the Son of Man had to suffer. The disciples invite Jesus to have dinner with them. When Jesus breaks bread, and wine (like we do in mass during the sacrament of the Eucharist), they recognized him.
