Barrel

The main body of the horse, including the ribcage and abdomen.

Cannon bone

The long bone in the lower leg of a horse, between the knee and the fetlock.

Cheek

Fleshy side of the horse’s face

Chest

The front part of the horse's body, between the neck and the barrel.

Chestnuts

Horny growths on the inside of a horse's legs, above the knee or hock.

Coffin joint

The joint between the short pastern bone and the coffin bone in a horse's foot.

Coronary band

The area of skin at the top of the hoof, where the hoof wall grows from.

Croup

The area of the horse's back, just in front of the tail.

Dock

The area at the top of the horse's tail, where the tail is attached to the body.

Elbow

The joint in the front leg of a horse, where the upper arm and the forearm meet.

Ergot

A small, horny growth on the back of a horse's fetlock.

Fetlock

The joint in the lower leg of a horse, just above the hoof.

Flank

The area of the horse's body between the ribs and the hip.

Forelock

The hair that grows from the front of a horse's head, between the ears.

Frog

The triangular-shaped structure on the underside of a horse's hoof.

Gaskin

The muscular area of the horse's hind leg, between the stifle and the hock.

Heart girth

The circumference of the horse's body, just behind the withers and in front of the barrel.

Heel

The back part of the horse's hoof, below the pastern.

Hock

The joint in the hind leg of a horse, between the tarsus and the cannon bone.

Hoof

The hard, horny covering of the horse's foot.

Hoof wall

The outer part of the horse's hoof, made of keratin.

Knee

The joint in the front leg of a horse, between the forearm and the cannon bone.

Loin

The area of the horse's back, just behind the saddle area.

Mane

The long hair that grows from the top of a horse's neck.

Muzzle

The front part of the horse's face, including the nostrils and the lips.

Pastern

The area of the horse's leg between the fetlock and the hoof.

Poll

The top of a horse's head, between the ears.

Shoulder

The area of the horse's body between the neck and the barrel.

Sole

The bottom part of the horse's hoof, inside the hoof wall.

Stifle

The joint in the hind leg of a horse, between the thigh and the gaskin.

Tail head

The area at the top of the horse's tail, where the tailbone is located.

Toe

The front part of the horse's hoof, opposite the heel.

White line

The area of the horse's hoof where the hoof wall meets the sole.

Withers

The highest point of the horse's shoulder, where the neck and the back meet.
