Work
The product of force and the distance moved in the direction of the force.
Kinetic Energy
The energy an object possesses due to its motion.
Work-Energy Theorem
The total work done on an object is equal to the change in its kinetic energy.
Joule (J)
The SI unit of work and energy; one joule is the work done when a force of one newton moves an object one meter.
Power
The rate at which work is done; measured in watts.
Newton-meter
The SI unit of work also expressed as joule.
Dot Product
A mathematical operation that takes two equal-length sequences of numbers and returns a single number, used to compute work when force and displacement are not in the same direction.
Positive Work
Work done when a force increases the speed of an object.
Negative Work
Work done when a force decreases the speed of an object.
Variable Force
A force that changes in magnitude or direction over the duration of its application.
Spring Force
The force exerted by a spring when it is either compressed or stretched, described by Hooke's law: F = kx.
