Active Voice
A grammatical structure where the subject performs the action.
Passive Voice
A grammatical structure where the action is performed on the subject.
Active to Passive Transformation
The process of changing a sentence from active voice to passive voice.
Structure of Passive Voice
Object + be (am/is/are/was/were) + Past Participle (+ by subject).
Example of Active Voice
'Ian Kiernan started a cleanup campaign.'
Example of Passive Voice
'A cleanup campaign was started by Ian Kiernan.'
Transformation Steps from Active to Passive
Move the object to the subject position. 2. Change the verb to the correct form of 'be' + past participle. 3. Add 'by + subject' (optional).
Example of Practice Sentences
Active: 'Volunteers pick up garbage from beaches.' Passive: 'Garbage is picked up from beaches (by volunteers).'
