activation of receptors by stimuli in the environment!

Perception

process of organizing and attempting to understand the sensory stimulation we reveive (basically the brain)

Perception is

Subjective, selective and temporal

Meaning is defined by

context and experience

Thresholds and Adaptation:

Adaptation referes to the loss of sensitivity to a stimulus due tu continuous exposure to the stimulus

Absolute threshold

Determiend by the smallest amount of energy requiered by a stimulus to be detected by 50% of indivduals

Differencial threshold

amount of stimulus energy that needs to be substracted from or added to stimulus for an individual to notice a difference 50% of the time

Subliminal perception

Stimuli that are below the absolute threshold of attention (activate receptors but we are not consciously aware of them).
