(5) RQ2 - Lateran IV: Canon 68 - on Jews

What is the main point of this?

The church noticed that in some areas, Jews and Saracens (Muslims) were not easily distinguishable from Christians by their clothing. This caused problems, like Christian men or women accidentally having relations with Jews or Saracens.

Because of this, specific rules were decreed. What were they?

Distinct dress, restricted public appearance before easter, protection of the faith

How did muslims distinct dressing look?

ews and Saracens must wear clothing that clearly separates them from Christians, so everyone can tell them apart. This rule comes from the Hebrew Bible (Numbers 15) 

What about Muslim’s restricted public appearance before easter? 

In the three days before Easter, especially on Good Friday, Jews and Saracens cannot appear in public.

What about muslims protection of the faith?

No one is allowed to blaspheme or insult Jesus. Secular rulers (princes or kings) must punish anyone who tries, so such offenses do not happen again.
