Mean (๐)
The average or expected value of a discrete probability distribution.
Discrete Probability Distribution
A probability distribution that describes the likelihood of each possible value of a discrete random variable.
Expected Value E(X)
The mean of a probability distribution, calculated as E(X) = ฮฃ[X * P(X)].
P(X)
The probability value associated with a particular value of the random variable X.
Formula for Mean
๐ = ๐ฌ(๐ฟ) = ๐ฎ[๐ฟโฆ๐ท(๐ฟ)] where ๐ฟ is the value and ๐ท(๐ฟ) is the probability.
XโฆP(X)
The product of the value of X and its associated probability P(X), used in calculating the mean.
Example of Mean Calculation
To find the mean of a set of probability distributions, multiply each value of X by its corresponding probability P(X) and sum the results.
Expected Value Calculation
To find the expected value, sum all calculated XโฆP(X) values.
