Global Circulation Model
A model that describes the patterns of atmospheric circulation and the distribution of climate zones across the globe.
Hadley Cell
A large scale atmospheric convection cell in which warm air rises at the equator and cool air sinks at about 30° latitude.
Ferrel Cell
A convection cell between the Hadley cell and Polar cell that is characterized by westerly winds and influences mid-latitude weather.
Polar Cell
A circulation cell in which cold air sinks at the poles and moves toward the equator.
ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone)
A belt of low pressure near the equator where trade winds converge, often associated with heavy rainfall.
North-east Trade Winds
Winds that blow from the north-east towards the equator, caused by the Coriolis effect and pressure differences.
Relative Humidity
The amount of moisture in the air compared to the maximum amount of moisture the air can hold at a given temperature.
Rural Settlement
A community in the countryside that is characterized by a low population density and is primarily focused on agriculture.
Sphere of Influence
The area surrounding a service or landmark in which it has a significant impact on its surroundings.
