Multiplication
The process of combining groups of equal sizes to find a total.
Traditional Method of Multiplication
A method involving splitting numbers into parts, multiplying separately, and then summing the results.
Example of Multiplication
46 × 27 = (40 × 20) + (40 × 7) + (6 × 20) + (6 × 7), yielding 1242.
Division
The process of determining how many times one number is contained within another.
Short Division Method
A simplified method for division conducted by setting up the dividing number and working through the digits of the number being divided.
Remainder
The amount left over after division when one number cannot be divided evenly by another.
Example of Division
For 748 ÷ 22, using short division results in 34 with a remainder of 0.
Multiple of a Number
The result of multiplying that number by a whole number.
