What is a cell?
The smallest unit of life, making up all living things.
What are the two main types of cells?
Somatic cells and Gametes.
What are somatic cells?
Cells of the body, such as skin cells, muscle cells, and white blood cells.
What are gametes?
Reproductive cells; male spermatozoa and female ova.
What is fertilization?
The union of male and female reproductive cells that forms a zygote.
What are the components of a cell?
Cell membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleus.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
It protects the cell.
What does the cytoplasm contain?
Many organelles such as centrioles, mitochondria, and vacuoles.
What is located within the nucleus?
Chromatin (chromosomes) are located within the nucleus.
Where are sperm cells produced?
In the testicles.
Where are ova produced?
In the ovaries.
What is a zygote?
A fertilized egg that develops into an embryo.
