Battle of Britain
Hitler planned to launch ‘operation sealion’ to conquer Great Britain. The battle was primarily fought in the air between the Germany and British Royal Air Force. The British were able to defeat the Germans by September and Hitler had to call off the invasion. Canada played a significant role in the battle
D Day
Over a million Allied troops stormed the beaches at Normandy and began the process of re-taking France. The turning point of World War II.
Battle of the Atlantic
Germany's naval attempt to cut off British supply ships by using u-boats. Caused Britain and the US to officially join the war after their ships were sunk. After this battle, the Allies won control of the seas, allowing them to control supply transfer, which ultimately determined the war.
Battle of Hong Kong
Japan's attack on the British colony of Hong Kong in which there were heavy Canadian losses
Battle of Dieppe
Raid on French Coastal port of Dieppe. A test on German defenses prior to D-Day. Gave Canadians a blueprint of what to do to ensure success of D Day
Battle of Ortona
Canadians were given the task of capturing the town of Ortona. Canadians fought in Urban areas.
Liberation of the Netherlands
After D-Day, Canadians ploughed on along the French coast, and eventually came to the Netherlands. They invaded and eventually freed the country.
Battle of the Bulge
German forces launched a final counterattack in the west but failed.

Hitler
German Nazi dictator during World War II. Nazi leader and founder; initiated the Holocaust and had over 6 million Jews assassinated. Wanted to create a "master race".
Blitzkrieg
Meaning ‘Lightning War’ in German. Military strategy used by Germany. Incorporated tanks, aircraft, and infantry into rapid and coordinated attacks. The aim was to swiftly immobilize the enemy by creating surprise and chaos.

WWII training site for spies and commandos, located in Ontario Canada. Played a pivotal role in training personnel for covert operations during the war
Enigma Machine
German code machine broken by the Allies and used to predict what the Germans would do
Holocaust
Systematic genocide during World War II where six million Jews, along with millions of others, were systematically murdered by Nazi Germany.
Benito Mussolini
Founded the Italian Fascist Party, and sided with Hitler and Germany in World War II. In 1945 he was overthrown and assassinated by the Italian Resistance.
