Quidem
quidem = emphatic particle (adds emphasis, not meaning)
Common meanings: indeed / certainly / even
Most important use:
ne … quidem = “not even”
The word between ne and quidem is emphasised
Often used in contrasts:
non solum … sed ne … quidem = not only … but not even …
When alone: translate lightly (often “indeed” or just emphasis)
Never ignore it, but don’t overtranslate
Exam rule: see ne … quidem → write NOT EVEN immediately
