What is the function of the nucleus?
The nucleus stores and protects genetic information in the form of DNA.
What is chromatin?
Chromatin is spread-out DNA wrapped around proteins when the cell is not undergoing mitosis or meiosis.
What is the nucleolus?
The nucleolus is a region inside the nucleus where ribosomes are assembled.
What is the function of nuclear pores?
Nuclear pores allow molecules such as messenger RNA and transcription factors to move in and out of the nucleus.
What are ribosomes?
Ribosomes are particles made of ribosomal RNA and proteins that translate messenger RNA into amino acid sequences.
What is the difference between free and bound ribosomes?
Free ribosomes float in the cytoplasm, while bound ribosomes attach to the rough ER to produce proteins destined for membranes, vesicles, or lysosomes.
