Normal pulse is between 60-100 beats per minute
Never use your thumb because you will feel your own
Count for 1 minute using a second hand clock
Pulse is the beat of the heart felt at an artery as the wave of blood passes through the artery.
Pulse rhythm should be regular, steady and predictable
If a pulse is irregular make sure you report to the charge nurse immediately
The pulse rate can be measured at various points in the body such as:
Radial artery- Thumb side of wrist
Carotid - Neck
Brachial - Inner elbow
Femoral - Groin
Popliteal - Behind the knee
