Ending chords for a musical phrase

Perfect authentic cadence

Five to one-with the root doubled in the soprano voice fro the final chord

Imperfect authentic cadence

Five to one -any five to one that doesn’t fit perfect authentic

Plagal cadence

Four to one

Half Cadence

Ends in a five chord

Deceptive cadence

Five to six

Passing tone

-filling in a third

-fill in the space between two chord tones a fourth apart

Complete neighbor tone

Occurs between two instances of the same chord tone

Incomplete neighbor tone

Step away from a chord tone that proceeds or follows it- and is connected on the other side as a leap

Appoggiatura

Type of int

-accented, preceded by a leap, followed by a step

Escape tone

Unaccented, preceded by step from a chord tone, followed by a leap

Anticipation

Chord tone that comes early

Suspension

Preparation through a chord tone, the suspension is the same note as the preparation- then it goes down a step

Retardation

Inward resolving suspension
