Could you please introduce yourself to the court?
My name is Ali Sandoval. I am a journalist for the Emerald Bend Daily Reporter.
How are you involved in today’s case?
I was covering the race for city council between Harper Dorais and Taylor Alexander for several months. I attended all the major campaign events and debates for both Alexander and Dorais. I was also able to interview the candidates and their staff on many occasions.
Throughout your reports, did Logan Gold’s attitude ever stand out to you?
He always seemed passionate about the campaign issues in interviews. It seemed to me that Logan was more ambitious and more serious about the campaign than Harper.
Did you notice any tensions between Gold and Alexander?
Now that I think about it, I did notice a sense of animosity between Gold and Alexander. I remember there were several instances in which Gold would pick fights with him because of his position on the vacation rentals.
Is there a specific instance you remember that displayed this animosity?
I remember Gold told Alexander that his position would “ruin the town.” He also told Alexander that “Alexander’s destruction would come back around.” Alexander told Gold that he goes on a morning run at 5:30 AM every morning and that “Gold would benefit from a grounding routine like that.”
Was this the only time you heard the defendant state things “would come back around?”
No, “everything comes back around” was his catchphrase. He repeatedly stated it throughout the race and even said it to me directly in interviews.
I want to move on to the day of the debate. Were you present on Nov. 11th?
Yes, I arrived early at around 11:00 AM. I set up my supplies and spoke with some members of Alexander’s campaign staff. They seemed nervous.
Why?
Alexander was supposed to arrive at the debate at 11:00 am and finish preparing, but he still was not present. This debate was important and it seemed out of character for Taylor to be late. Staff members also tried calling him but he did not respond.
Did you notice anything about Dorais and her team?
They were all huddled together and Dorais also seemed nervous. Logan Gold still wasn’t there.
Did Gold ever show up?
Yes, he arrived at around 12:30 PM. I remember hearing Dorais ask Gold “what was going on.” Gold replied by saying “it’s all been taken care of.”
Did the debate ever happen?
No, the debate was supposed to begin at 12:00 PM but 30 minutes after Gold had arrived, Taylor Alexander still had not shown up.
