How to Debate

Cooperativeness

Avoidance
A reaction to conflict that involves ignoring the problem by doing nothing at all, or deemphasizing the disagreement.
Feedback
the messages, usually nonverbal, sent from a listener to a speaker

active listening
Empathic listening in which the listener echoes, restates, and clarifies. A feature of Rogers' client-centered therapy.

critical listening
listening to evaluate a message for purposes of accepting or rejecting it
empathetic listening
understanding the speaker's perspective and personal frame of reference and giving feedback that conveys that understanding to the speaker
