Project
A complex, nonroutine, one-time effort limited by time, budget, resources, and quality/performance specifications designed to meet customer needs.
Project Life Cycle
The logically defined life span of a project that includes phases such as defining, planning, executing, and closing.
Project Governance
The framework for overseeing and directing projects to ensure they align with organizational objectives and strategies.
Operations
Routine, repetitive work that is focused on ongoing tasks, as opposed to unique and temporary projects.
Program
A series of coordinated, related projects that continue over time to achieve a common goal.
Portfolio Management
The process of managing a set of projects and programs in order to achieve strategic objectives and optimize resource use.
Project Manager
An individual who manages project activities, marshals resources, and focuses on achieving project objectives.
Triple Bottom Line
An approach that considers social, environmental, and economic concerns in business strategy.
Unique Project Characteristics
Attributes that distinguish projects from routine operations, such as having a defined objective, a temporary life span, and resource consumption.
Stakeholder Communication
The ongoing exchange of information among all individuals or organizations involved in or affected by the project.
