Metaethics
Branch of ethics that examines the nature and origins of ethical concepts.
Normative Ethics
Guidelines for determining right and wrong, involving three types: Virtue Theories, Duty Theories, and Consequentialism.
Moral Reasoning
The process of determining if something is moral, based on factual information, moral standards, and moral judgment.
Universal Truths
Principles that are accepted as universally valid across different cultures, as opposed to social constructs.
Social Construction of Reality
The idea that reality is shaped by collective interpretations and societal agreements.
Epistemology
The study of knowledge and how we understand what is real.
Ontology
The study of being and existence, particularly in the context of moral judgments.
Virtue Theories
Ethical framework focusing on the development of good character leading to virtuous behavior.
Egoism
An ethical theory that suggests individuals are primarily motivated by self-interest.
Altruism
An ethical theory that emphasizes selfless concern for the well-being of others.

Neurons that enable empathy by allowing individuals to understand and resonate with others' feelings.
