growth hormone (GH)

prolactin (PRL)

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)

stimulus for release: TRH

Target: thyroid gland

Effects: stimulates the secretion of thyroid hormones (T3 & T4)

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)

stimulus for release: GnRH

target: ovaries and testes (gonads)

effects:

• females: stimulates ovarian follicle maturation and estrogen production

• males: stimulates sperm production n

Luteinizing hormone (LH)

stimulus for release: GnRH

target: ovaries and testes (gonads)

Effects:

• female: triggers ovulation and stimulates ovarian production of estogen and progesterone

• males: stimulates testosterone production , stimulates the release of glucocorticoids and androgens

Growth hormone (GH)

stimulus for release: GHRH

target: liver, muscle, bone, and cartilage, mostly

effects: stimulates body growth and protein sythesis, mobilizes fat and conserves glucose

prolactin (PRL)

stimulus for release: a decrease in the amount of prolactin-inhibiting hormone

target: mammary glands in the breasts

effects: stimulates milk production (lactation)
