idea properalized by john locke, where everyone has life liberty and property. Was the basis for american govenermet. government should only pass laws with the people's permission
great awakening
a series of protestant religious revivals that changed the colonists understanding of god, it caused church splits and surge in religious indevidualism. It changed colonial liberty by changing balence of religious power.
virtual representation
the act of having someone represent the colonies in parliment, sparked contreversy since the colonies didnt have actual representation in British parliment.

protest where americna colonists agreeed no to buy or use goods that were brought from britain
first continental congress
a meeting held where representatives from the colonies talk about Britain, and the new taxes, and laws. it declared informally to the british, that the colonies should have the same rights as they did.
french and indian war
war between the british(colonies) and france, they fought for expansion of land, and it gave enormous territorial gains to Britain. treaty of paris, secured britain’s win, then royal proclamation confirmed indian control of the region and declared it off limits to colonial settlers.
