Telecommunications
The electronic transmission of signals for communications by means such as telephone, radio, and television.
Channel Bandwidth
The rate at which data is exchanged, usually measured in bits per second (bps); broader bandwidth allows for more information to be exchanged.
Synchronous Communication
Communication where the receiver gets the message almost instantaneously when it is sent, as in phone calls or live chats.
Asynchronous Communication
Communication where there is a measurable delay between sending and receiving the message, such as emails.
Modem
A hardware device that converts communications signals to be transmitted over communication media, converting signals from analogue to digital and vice versa.
Router
A device that forwards data packets across two or more distinct networks towards their destinations through a process known as routing.
Centralized Processing
A processing method where all processing occurs in a single location or facility, offering higher control.
Distributed Processing
A processing method where computers are placed at remote locations but connected via telecommunications.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
A private network using a public network to connect multiple remote locations, providing secure, encrypted connections.
Cloud Computing
A computing environment in which software and storage are provided as an internet service and accessed by users through their web browsers.
Extranet
A network linking selected resources of an organization's intranet with its customers, suppliers, or other business partners.
Intranet
An internal company network built using Internet and World Wide Web standards for employees to access company information.
Mesh Topology
A network topology where each node is connected to every other node, ensuring robust and scalable connections.
5G Wireless Communication
The fifth generation of wireless communication technology characterized by higher data transmission rates and lower power consumption.
