what do neutrophils do?
kill bacteria, release lysosomes, defensin proteins, and strong chemicals
what do monocytes do?
clean up dead cells, take longer but arrive in larger numbers
what do basophils do?
allergic reaction, release heparin, histamine, and serotonin to increase inflammation
what do eosinophils do?
attack parasitic worms
what do lymphocytes do?
B cells- destroy bacteria, turn into plasma cells and then to antibodies for what infected you, T cells- attack viruses, cancer cells, and fungi
what percentage do neutrophils make up of WBCs?
60-70%
what percentage do lymphocytes make up of WBCs?
20-25%
what percentage do monocytes make up of WBCs?
3-8%
what percentage do eosinophils make up of WBCs?
2-4%
what percentage do basophils make up of WBCs?

8-10 microns, dark purple, S-shaped nuclei

12-20 microns, kidney-shaped nuclei

large- 10-14 microns, small- 6-9 microns, oval nucleus
