Organic Molecules
Molecules that contain carbon and are central to life processes.
Polymerization
The process by which monomers join together to form polymers.
Hydrolysis
A reaction where water is added to split a larger molecule into smaller ones.
Dehydration Reaction
A reaction where water is removed to combine two smaller molecules into a larger one.
Monosaccharides
The simplest form of carbohydrates, which can be used to create complex sugars.
Saturated Fat
A type of fat that has no double bonds between carbon atoms, typically solid at room temperature.
Unsaturated Fat
A type of fat that has one or more double bonds between carbon atoms, typically liquid at room temperature.
Polymers
Large molecules that are made up of repeated subunits called monomers.
Cohesion
The tendency of molecules of the same substance to stick together, important in water's properties.
Nonpolar Molecules
Molecules that do not have distinct positive and negative poles, such as oils.
Lipids
A group of organic compounds that are insoluble in water and include fats, oils, and steroids.
Amino Acids
Building blocks of proteins, which combine to form peptides and proteins.
